Hi everyone.

I've already fitted a towbar to the car (1995 Mk3 Astra Sport), and I've found what looks like a grey muliplug connector behind the boot fascia. It seems to have 8 or 9 pins in it, it's about 20mm square, and was taped to the wiring loom. All the coloured wires correspond with stop/tail, indicator, fog etc, so I'm thinking this must be a factory fitted take-off point for towbar electrics.

Anyone know what I'm on about? If so, what kit do I need to connect this multiplug to the main towbar to trailer connector?

I'd rather use the existing multiplug than scotchlock the existing wires at the lights...

Thanks in anticipation.

No problems - phoned up local VX dealer, they had 1 kit left in stock. Comes with bulb for the towing light on the dash, a relay, some fuses, replacement flasher unit, the cable for the connector at the boot to the trailer socket, the trailer socket itself, and couple of scotchlocks to sort the fog-light out.

All for £25.

"Marvellous"

Now I need a trailer tent. Anyone got any opinions on ones to go for or avoid. We're buying 2nd hand/used/pre-owned (whatever it's called these days).

Cheers!

Mums cavalier has the same setup... you'll probably want to disconnect the indicator buzzer ( makes a noise everytime you indicate with trailer attached) drives you crazy after about three minutes on the road! lol

Yeah hoping to go for a Conway as there seems to be a good following for them and an owners club which is always a good sign. Personally I'd like on of the new Dandy Riva trailer tents but to be honest they seem a bit bulky for me.

Its a legal requirement to have the buzzer (or a light) - the lights a lot less annoying as you say and its just a case of putting the bulb in the dash - hard part is getting behind the dash to do it!

I'd steer away from the older Conways if i was you as my Father in Law had one that he bought second hand without instructions and it was an absolute nightmare to put up. If you are getting an older one, make sure the instructions are there or get the seller to show you how they go up because the one my F I L had was not imediately (i know thats spelt wrong!) obvious.

The new ones are basically pop up so are just open up and voilaa (or something like that!)

I did have a caravan but got rid and now I have a tent which I bought from Tesco for £40 - plenty good enough for me the mrs and little one (another one on the way so may be time to get a trailer tent for next year!)
