View Full Version : Dual mass flywheel

The problem is that my daily driver (Omega 2.5 v6 manual T reg) started to not move when in gear when pulling away from just rolling, for instance at a roundabout. The clutch release bearing has been noisy the whole time I have owned the car and had got much worse. So I assumed it was that sticking so took the gearbox off today and yes the bearing is goosed but I have the honour (or not) of having a dual mass flywheel. When I grabbed it to check it was tight the two halves would move by about 3-4 inches of play. Which to me seams far too much and possibly the cause of the original problem.
Is this too much play for the flywheel (I have never had a car with a dual mass before)
Cheers all, and a Happy New Year
John

dunno about the specs for checking vaux flywheels but nissan diesels from side to to side no more than 35mm travel and end float is about 10mm, im with dave i would say yours is gone but might be worth ringing a vaux dealer to confirm.

i had a beemer once that the fly wheel moved about 6 miles side to side, stick a clutch and a new release bearing in there and see what it does, cheaper than a new car*

* i'm very ****ed as its newyear so info might be a tad exagerrated
