Ok friend I work with has just bought the aforementioned car... loads of stuff that hasnt been asked about it but I'm not going there now... anyway
she says to me this morning its lovely to drive but he (the family friend she bought it off) warned me it keeps cutting out when idling and its done it several times on the way to work today.
So... as Mark has buggered off again with work... I'm seeking your advice. I think its the idle control sensor or something similar??
If not what do you recon it could be??
If you think it is how much of a problem is it to fix, how bad/dangerous if not fixed and any ideas how much bits and fitting would be??
cheers peeps
H :D xx

Mine does this regularly, and dave knows about it so it cant be that dangerous?!?! (I hope) He said something about the idle air valve needing cleaning out!
Dont think its a big job if thats what it is, but I am by NO means a mechanic. Just thinking as mine is a 98 vectra too, may be a common problem............

idle air control valve, one torx screw on the side of the throttle body towards the back of the engine bay i belive., give it a clean with some carb cleaner and a cotton bud, should be right as rain.

2 allen key bolts actualy ;) it will be this or the throttle body will be smeared with oil . either just needs cleaning tbh at a push it could be air flow meter but i doubt this tbh

May well have cleaned it but has he re-oiled it? If not then it will stick and not work properly = cutting out & poor idling...

which bit needs re-oiling :o
The insides, I tend to just shove a few drops of 3 in 1 oil into them once thoroughly cleaned

depends which pipe it is ... it could something completely different .. but the vacuum pipes are the most common due to them cracking due to the heat
