Airbag light should stay on untill reset tbh, thats a bit strange! Accidentaly ripped the wire out of the pretensioner when hovering the vetcra, light came on and wouldnt go away even when re-connected, had to use tech 2.

No, that will be a seperate thing.
Airbag has nothing to do with the engine.
If the EML has been illuminated for more than 30secs it will have logged a code, so you will need to 'flash' the code out, easiest way is to follow the instructions found on this website..

Let us know what code(s) you find

Sounds like you have some dodgy connections behind the dash, have you had any of it out recently?

only things i can think of that may cause these problems are-
1.when i bought the car it had small neons in the footwell that light up when door is open but are on a seperate switch and ive now turned them off??and as been fine since til now?
2.the electric front windows work without the keys in ignition??door open or closed the windows will work either way??ive owned 2 astra sports in the past and neither of them worked without keys in ignition.the keys had to be in ignition and turned on?
dont know if these have anytin do with it.id say not but?

Sounds like permanent live to the windows, which have no doubt been messed with when those neons have been fitted.
I'd be taking a good look behind the fusebox for starters..

**** tech 2, if you wanna suss out the engine management problem there is a plug under the handbrake cover on the veccy (i think) just make the connection between the two with a trusty paper clip and record the series of flashes from the engine management light on the dashboard. then look for the info online that will sort that out for ya.
The airbag one is either the tensioner or a faulty wire usually when ppl mess around with the steering wheel or behind the dash for connecting stereo equipment to a constant live feed (tapping into loom)
The light for airbag is an easy one.......take the bulb out!

Not so!
Airbag light must illuminate on start up then extinguish for the mot...
Mark has a Tech 2, so assuming cost for jcs will be considerably less than Vaux

Ahh interesting code that..
Not very clued up on electrical side, I'm sure Mark may know more
But sounds like a relay is screwed somewhere? Or faulty Voltage Regulator..

yeah sounds like the alternator to me .. as at most it should be 14 -15 volts so to be getting over 17 is bad news ... might be worth sticking a multimeter on it to test .. if you don't know how to most places that sell batteries can do the test for you

Oh ... I am sure you can't do a paper clip test for Airbag light as it has its own ECU so the codes are not stored in the Engine ECU ... maybe wrong ..

yeah thought alternator and was told that,il get it tested asap.i think thats why the airbag light is on due to alternator over chargeing as something else thats hapend.noticed i had headlight bulb out was working 2 days before, and then tonight went out dove down the street and the other headlight bulb goes so may have sumit do with it.il get it sorted and hope it cures my problems:mad:
