costing me FAR too much to run at 17 years old..

£2500 for insurance a year is a killer, never mind the £50 a week for petrol..

i am gutted, becuase i built this to the way i always wanted a nova..cant have everything though.

hopefully get myself dept free and get some money behind me and get another nova next year.

hopefully the insurance will be down a bit too with a years driving experience..

have a long think before you do anything rash. i think you would be better garaging it for a year or two until your situation improves ..its too nice to break !!!!

Definately think about this, I have considered selling and breaking my Nova many a time since getting it due to having to fix it a lot but I am so glad my friends and people here helped persuade me not to sell.

Its still sitting not running today but i am glad i still have it and will be able to drive it once its fixed again.

greg mate there is far too much time money and effort gone into that car for you to do anything but keep it. if you do get rid then the chances of collecting all the parts again a year down the line might be harder than you think. bear in mind that the newest novas about are still about 16 years old now so good ones are gettin hard to find.

do as pete said stick it in a garage for a year or so then once you have your no claims built up and earning decent money dust it down and bring it back out and enjoy all your hard work. think about what your going to do for a while so you are totally sure of what you are doing, i think after its sold/broken you will be totally gutted that you have done it. get a cheap runabout and run that for a year or so and save up as much as you can in the meantime.

I agree you would be better storing the car than selling or breaking, you would never replace it exactly and if its been built to your ideal spec would you ever be satisfied with any other car in the future?

If you have access to private land you can easily run it round now and again to keep its parts moving etc.

Things will get better insurance wise :D seems like 5 mins ago that I was paying for my first years insurance and now im really old :D time soon flies

thanks for all the advice people..i have been thinking about it for a few weeks now and just decided the other night the best thing was to break it.

it is now sitting in my garage basically a bare shell, sold alot of stuff from it already.

i did build it to how i always wanted a nova, but when i am financially better off i can build another one.

the nova was a great car for my first and for my first build (especially starting at 14years old) but i would of liked it a bit tidier. would of loved to have a better shell, as i knew there had been alot of welding done to it. ok it was solid after all the work and after all the bodywork got done, nobody would tell that it was a rotbox at one time. atleast now i have the experience and knowledge on how to build a slightly "special" nova next year.

Just to let you know, i am not moving away from novas. cant remember if i posted it up, but i have recently bought on original Nova Sport. as you will know these are rare and very well sot after.

again, thanks for the kind words/help but i think i have done the best thing..

oh, i also got myself a cheap runabout. a p reg berlingo van. 250quid for insurance..cant complain, will be a big saving from 2.5k a year for the nova!
